ABOUT ME
I have been involved with woodcraft my entire life. Initially trained as an architect at U.C. Berkeley, after college I started managing construction crews building custom homes. I've built over 20 custom homes, about half in the San Francisco Bay area, the rest in the Tahoe/Truckee area. For many of these, I've built custom cabinets and built other custom woodwork such as doors, stairways, cathedral ceilings ,wainscoting, window trim, soffits, and energy efficient lighting systems for bathrooms and kitchens. My work with cabinetry and woodwork for homes naturally evolved into designing and building custom furniture, initially for clients for which I have built homes.
While I'm still involved in custom home design and construction, my passion is building custom furniture, and I'm deeply committed to the highest quality craftsmanship and detailing. I take pride in my work and enjoy creating furniture that showcases wood's natural beauty.
I'm privileged to live in the California Sierras, as I've always been inspired by what nature has created in these mountains. As an avid cross-country skier and cyclist, I enjoy the great outdoors year-round. And as my wife Susan likes to say, when I'm not skiing or biking I'm usually "making sawdust", focused on creating something new for a client.
I also do custom home design, architecture, and construction for select projects -- for more information visit http://www.dorwartdesignandconstruction.com
